KATHMANDU, Aug 24: The Federal Parliament’s Legislative Management Committee is meeting today. The agenda includes a clause-wise discussion on the “National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2024.”
The bill was registered in the National Assembly on January 7, 2025. A general discussion took place on February 16, 2025, after which the bill was sent to the committee for detailed clause-wise deliberation.

The bill envisions establishing a National Forensic Science Laboratory to examine biological or non-biological objects, evidence, documents, goods, physical materials, and electronic items related to investigations. The laboratory will use scientific methods and procedures to collect and verify evidence.
Provisions in the bill include the establishment, functions, and powers of the laboratory, formation and authority of the governing board, arrangements for testing, appointment of an executive director and staff, management of the laboratory fund, accounting, and auditing, among others.
