KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police to initiate a fresh and thorough investigation into the rape and murder case of Nirmala Panta of Bhimdatta Municipality, Kanchanpur.
During an inspection of the CIB office on Sunday, Minister Lekhak instructed the bureau to carry out a meticulous investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized that no effort should be spared in probing the Nirmala Panta case.

"I urge the CIB to expedite investigations into all complex cases, including that of Nirmala Pant,” said Lekhak, “Public trust in the CIB within Nepal Police has increased, and this trust must be upheld with integrity."
Expressing satisfaction over the bureau's performance despite limited resources, Minister Lekhak assured that the ministry is committed to equipping the CIB with adequate infrastructure and resources. He also informed that, in response to the growing number of financial crimes in the country, a new division dedicated to financial crime investigations has been established.
"As public trust in the police increases, we are receiving requests for more police posts across the country,” he said, “Accordingly, the budget allocation for this fiscal year has been comparatively higher to enhance police facilities." Highlighting the CIB’s vital role within Nepal Police, he stressed the need to strengthen its technological capabilities and human resources.
During the program, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hobindra Bogati gave a presentation on the bureau’s ongoing work, enforcement actions, achievements, and challenges. He confirmed that investigations into the Nirmala Panta case, as well as other cases, are actively underway. The event was also attended by Inspector General of Police Deepak Thapa, CIB Chief Additional Inspector General of Police Chandrakuber Khapung, and other CIB officers.
