KATHMANDU, April 22: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged residents not to burn waste in open spaces, reminding City dwellers that the smoke emitted from burning plastic waste is harmful to human health, particularly the young and the elderly.
Sarita Rai, the head of the KMC's Environment Management Department, said that polluted air is especially harmful to children, elderly people, and those with respiratory or heart conditions.

Rai requested residents to dispose of all types of waste properly through the waste collection vehicles. Rai also urged industries and factories to follow the Pollution Control Standards 2081.
