The previous bridge had been damaged by a flood in late September last year, particularly on the Makwanpur side. Since then, a diversion route has been in use. However, the diversion, which relied on small hume pipes, was often washed away even by minor floods, making travel difficult.

Recently, travel through the diversion was halted for four days to facilitate the installation of the Bailey bridge. Now that the work is complete and vehicles are running smoothly again, travel along the Kanti Highway is expected to be much easier.
