SUNSARI, Sept 4: Another inmate has died at Jhumka Prison in Sunsari. According to the District Police Office (DPO) in Sunsari, 46-year-old Jaleshwar Yadav of Rajbiraj Municipality-8 fell ill with a fever and passed away Wednesday evening.
“Jaleshwar was admitted to the district hospital due to a fever and later developed breathing problems, resulting in his death during treatment,” said SP Suman Timsina, Chief of DPO.

According to the prison administration, Yadav was taken to the hospital at 5:30 pm on Wednesday. Acting Jailor Ram Niraula confirmed that Yadav, who was in jail for trial in a rape case, died while receiving medical treatment.
The prison administration said that among the inmates, 13 seriously ill prisoners with high fever were sent to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, for treatment. Currently, more than three inmates at Jhumka Prison are suffering from fever. For these patients, medical teams from the District Hospital in Inaruwa and BP Koirala Institute in Dharan conducted a health camp until midnight Wednesday.
“For the patients, the medical team has examined them and provided the necessary medicines,” Jailor Niraula said. “Even as the number of patients rises, the medical team is on high alert and continues to monitor and check them.”
In the past week, three inmates have died at Jhumka Prison. Previously, 52-year-old Ramdev Urawa of Gadhi Rural Municipality-6, Sunsari, and 24-year-old Sagar Rai of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-10 died on August 31 and September 1, respectively. Jhumka Prison currently houses 1,798 inmates across Blocks ‘A’ and ‘B’.
