Jailing Rabi Lamichhane is govt’s only achievement: RSP Vice Chair Dr Wagle

“A rare political mandate, which should be used for structural reforms after revolutions, is now being misused to protect each other’s corruption files,” he said.

KATHMANDU, July 27: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Vice Chairperson Dr Swarnim Wagle has accused the ruling coalition of making a grave mistake by arresting party chair Rabi Lamichhane, warning that it will soon have to face the consequences.

Addressing a party gathering in Ramechhap, Wagle claimed the Nepali Congress-CPN-UML coalition was formed not to ensure political stability, but to shield corrupt individuals. “A rare political mandate, which should be used for structural reforms after revolutions, is now being misused to protect each other’s corruption files,” he said.

He criticized the coalition for deceiving the public for a year with what he called a “white lie” about constitutional amendments, despite lacking the two-thirds majority needed. He added that the government has failed to deliver on its promises of economic revival and good governance. “Instead of improvement, we’ve seen daily scandals – ministers caught taking bribes of Rs 7.8 million and Rs 3.2 million,” he said.

Wagle said that jailing Lamichhane is the government's only notable action so far and emphasized that the people will not forget. He noted that over 2.8 million people had signed RSP’s petition against the government’s move, calling it a reflection of public frustration—not just party supporters.
