Both teams have earned 2 points from 3 matches. If Mumbai defeats Lucknow, they will climb to at least the fourth position. However, if Mumbai loses, Lucknow, currently in seventh place, will rise up to at least the sixth position.

After losing their first two games to Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, Mumbai won their third match against Kolkata Knight Riders. In contrast, Lucknow, after losing to Delhi Capitals in their first match and Punjab Kings in their third, secured a victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their second.
Lucknow will take the field under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant, while Mumbai will be led by Hardik Pandya.
