Investors lose Rs 48 billion lose as NEPSE dips 30.39 points in a week

KATHMANDU, Aug 23: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) declined 30.39 points last week, giving continuity to the ongoing bearish trend in the secondary market.


The market opened at 2,788.36 on Sunday and closed at 2,757.97 points on Thursday. During the period, the market went as high as 2,803.25 points and plunged as low as 2,755.88 points, witnessing a volatility of 47.37 points.

Last week, the market opened for trading at a negative note, plummeting by 27.14 points on Sunday. In nominal fluctuation on the rest of the days, the index increased marginally by 9.16 points and 6.51 points, respectively, on Monday and Tuesday. On the consecutive two days, the index declined by 5.91 points and 9.22 points, respectively. 


Out of the 13 groups, only hotels and tourism posted 1.23 percent gain in its market value. Of the 12 losers, the others index declined the highest of 2.45 percent, followed by finance and trading with a slump of 1.90 percent and 1.88 percent, respectively.


On an individual basis, Laxmi Unnati Kosh’s price declined the largest of 21.41 percent, whereas Bikash Hydropower Company gained the highest of 20.99 percent. Share transactions of Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited stood at Rs 1.32 billion, the largest of all.  


The total turnover amount declined 3.20 percent to Rs 29.77 billion. The average daily turnover also dropped to Rs 5.95 billion from Rs 7.68 billion.


Along with the NEPSE index, the market capitalization also declined to Rs 4.608 trillion from Rs 4.656 trillion, which made investors face loss worth Rs 48 billion in their investment portfolio. In the previous three weeks, the investors withstood a total loss of 330 billion.
