Indian Power Minister Khattar arrives in Kathmandu

India's Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, arrived in Nepal this morning for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Nepal's Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka.

KATHMANDU, April 22: India's Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, arrived in Nepal this morning for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Nepal's Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka.



This afternoon, Minister Khattar is scheduled to jointly inaugurate the 220 kV transmission line and the Tumlingtar (220/133/33 kV), Baneshwar (220/33 kV), and Basantpur (220/133/33 kV) substations in Sankhuwasabha district. The projects have been constructed with the assistance of the Government of India under the Koshi Corridor transmission line project.

Khattar will also visit the powerhouse and dam site of the Arun III Hydropower Project, which is being developed with Indian investment. On the same day, Nepal and India will sign an agreement regarding the joint venture company established to construct new cross-border transmission lines.


In the presence of both ministers, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and India's Power Grid Corporation will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of two new cross-border transmission lines: the Dodhara (Lumki)-Bareilly and Inaruwa-Purnia 400 kV transmission lines.


On Tuesday, Minister Khattar will visit the Muktinath area in Mustang district. He is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh. Later in the evening, he will visit the Pashupatinath Temple.
