KATHMANDU, July 27: Indian nationals have been found smuggling cannabis produced in Thailand through Nepal to India, according to the Narcotics Control Bureau.
In the past month alone, eight Indian nationals were arrested in Nepal with Thai cannabis. Investigations show that Nepal is being used as a transit point for trafficking high-quality cannabis from Thailand to India.

The Bureau confirmed that Indian citizens are involved in both carrying and dealing with the drugs. “We have found Indian nationals working as both carriers and traders of Thai cannabis. Legal action has been taken against them,” said SSP Krishna Koirala, chief of the Bureau.
In the last year, Nepal Police filed cases against 45 Indian nationals, including seven women, in connection with drug trafficking.
According to Koirala, the smugglers bring cannabis from Thailand by air and then attempt to take it to India by land. “Our investigation found that cannabis brought to Nepal is transported by land to different parts of India. Some of those arrested are linked to pharmaceutical businesses in India,” he said.
Over the past several months, police have seized more than 200 kilograms of Thai cannabis at Tribhuvan International Airport.
