Indian national arrested with large quantity of Nepali and Indian educational certificates

On Sunday, police detained an Indian national in Bhairahawa with a large quantity of fake educational certificates, holograms, stamps and other documents from educational institutions and universities of both India and Nepal.

RUPANDEHI, Aug 19: It has come to light that fake educational certificates are also being trafficked through the Belahiya border of Rupandehi. 



On Sunday, police detained an Indian national in Bhairahawa with a large quantity of fake educational certificates, holograms, stamps and other documents from educational institutions and universities of both India and Nepal.


The police apprehended 25-year-old Abhishek Yadav from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, near Belahiya Bus Park, Siddharthnagar Municipality-1.


Following reports of the fake certificate trade in Rupandehi, the police had increased surveillance in the area. Yadav was entering Nepal from the Sunauli border via Belahiya around 6 PM on Sunday carrying a suitcase and bag when he was detained by a joint team from Area Police Station, Belahiya and District Police Office, Rupandehi.

Yadav attempted to check into Muktinath Hotel in Belahiya, where police recovered a large number of fake educational certificates, holograms, stickers and other items from his possession.


Among the recovered items were fake certificates, mark sheets, provisional certificates, character certificates and migration certificates from Indian educational institutions such as Amity University (Uttar Pradesh), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University Kanpur, Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Andhra University, Kurukshetra University and others. 


Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Suraj Karki at DPO, Rupandehi said over 1,200 fake documents including certificates, letterheads and admit forms from Indian institutions were seized.


Police also recovered dozens of fake stamps from Yadav, including ones bearing the names of Ayurvedic and Unani Medical Boards of Uttar Pradesh and Dr. Akhilekh Kumar Verma, Registrar of Ayurvedic and Unani Medical Boards, Uttar Pradesh, as well as blank stamps.


Along with Indian documents, fake certificates and documents from Nepali universities and educational institutions were also found. According to DSP Karki, authorities recovered from Yadav: 36 certificates, 100 transcripts, 3 stamps and 5 stamp pads from Tribhuvan University.


Police also seized 21 bundles (4,040 units) of Tribhuvan University 2012 holograms, 2,000 holograms (19 packets) of the Higher Secondary Education Board, 1,700 National Examination Board holograms (17 packets) and 1,900 CTEVT holograms. Additionally, police recovered 4 pen drives, 3 ATM cards, 18,500 Indian rupees and 3,000 Nepali rupees from Yadav.


Police held a press conference on Monday to provide details of the case.


Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Bahadur Kshetri, head of DPO, Rupandehi, said the search for the main culprits involved in the incident has begun and further investigation will reveal the extent of others’ involvement. 


The laptop, pen drives and mobile phones seized along with the fake certificates and documents will be sent for digital forensic analysis, which is expected to uncover more details.
