Important documents in Nepal’s judicial history nearly destroyed: SC

The CJ expressed grief over the damage caused to court buildings due to arson, stone-pelting, vandalism, and looting in the SC and other courts across the country.

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The Supreme Court (SC) has stated that important documents in Nepal’s judicial history have been nearly destroyed.



Chief Justice (CJ) Prakashman Singh Raut issued a statement on Thursday, mentioning that courts will resume soon to address citizens’ expectations for justice.

“In such a dire situation, fulfilling the responsibility entrusted to the judiciary by Nepal’s Constitution, while upholding the sovereignty vested in the people, constitution, the rule of law, the guarantee of fundamental rights, and the unassailable right of citizens to access justice, we remain steadfast and determined on the path of justice under all circumstances. We pledge to resume court operations at the earliest to address citizens’ expectations of justice,” reads the statement issued by the Chief Justice.


The CJ expressed grief over the damage caused to court buildings due to arson, stone-pelting, vandalism, and looting in the SC and other courts across the country.


The Chief Justice also expressed sorrow over the incidents. “We express grief over the deaths of Nepali citizens during the incidents of September 8 and 9 and extend condolences, while wishing speedy recovery to all Nepali citizens injured during the incidents,” the statement further reads.
