IMF says it will help new govt in Nepal’s economic reform programs

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed its solidarity to help in economic reform measures of the new government.

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed its solidarity to help in economic reform measures of the new government.



In a virtual meeting held with Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal, the IMF Mission Chief Sarwat Jahan said the international watchdog organization is ready to work with the new government on economic reform programs in Nepal. In the meeting, Mission Chief Sarwat discussed with the Finance Minister Khanal the impact of the recent political developments in Nepal on the economy and the continuation of economic reform programs.

Finance Minister Khanal informed that the main task of the current government formed under special circumstances is to hold the elections to the House of Representatives on time. He said that the government is committed to ensure good governance and creating jobs in the country in the line of the recent protests led by the Gen Z youths.


Minister Khanal expressed that the ongoing economic reform programs will be further accelerated on the suggestions of the IMF. According to the Secretariat of Finance Minister Khanal, discussions were held also to review the implementation status of the Extended Credit Facility being implemented by the IMF. “Nepal will soon review the impacts and will submit the sixth review report to the IMF board meeting soon,” he said.
