KATHMANDU, July 9: Majority of the top gainers at the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) were energy related companies a day after a number of hydropower projects were reported to have been damaged by the Bhotekoshi flood.
Of the topmost 20 gainers in the NEPSE lists on Wednesday, 12 were hydropower producers. Barun Hydropower Co Ltd gained the largest of 6.21 percent in its market value, followed by Panchakanya Mai Hydropower with 4.28 percent rise.
String of disasters curtail Upper Bhotekoshi's capacity

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has reported that projects with cumulative production capacity of 250 MW sustained major damages due to the flood in the Bhotekoshi River on Tuesday morning. While the headworks of the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project were completely destroyed, Trishuli-3A, Devighat and Upper Mailung Tadi project have been affected.
According to the NEPSE, 199 companies were successful in increasing their market prices on the intraday trading of Wednesday. Apart from hydropower, commercial banks and microfinance companies were among the high gainers in the secondary market.
