KATHMANDU: Aug 31, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Sunday visited various hospitals in Birgunj and Parsa to gather information about the health condition of cholera-infected patients undergoing treatment and to inspect the ongoing efforts by authorities for the treatment and control of the highly contagious disease.
Minister Lekhak visited Narayani Hospital, Terai Hospital, and Birgunj Healthcare Hospital to learn about the condition of patients being treated for cholera.

He stated that personnel from all three security agencies including the Nepali Army, would be mobilized to control the cholera outbreak in Birgunj.
Emphasizing that the government is taking the outbreak seriously, he said that, based on a decision by the Central Security Committee, medical personnel from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepali Army would be deployed.
He also mentioned that if hospitals request support, security agencies will immediately provide necessary medical personnel and medicines.
“We will not allow any negligence when it comes to saving lives. If you need additional medical personnel or medicines, doctors from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepali Army, along with medicines and equipment, will be made available immediately,” said Home Minister Lekhak. He confirmed that the decision was made by the Central Security Committee meeting.
Prime Minister K P Oli, earlier in a session of the House of Representatives, also stated that medical teams from security agencies would be deployed.
Home Minister Lekhak stressed the need for the government to consult with experts and identify the root cause of the cholera outbreak in order to bring it fully under control.
Lekhak also said that two doctors from the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been assigned to understand the ground reality of the affected areas.
