Home Minister Lekhak directs probe into death of sexual abuse victim Aanandi Sadaya

Aanandi Devi Sadaya, 25, from Barchhawa village in Naraha Rural Municipality, had previously reported an attempted rape by two men on December 24. She was later found hanging at her maternal home in Donbari Tole, Nawarajpur Rural Municipality-3, on Tuesday at around 3:30 p.m.

KATHMANDU, April 16: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed an investigation into the death of Aanandi Devi Sadaya, a woman from Siraha who was a victim of sexual abuse.



According to the minister’s secretariat, on Wednesday morning, Minister Lekhak called Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa and instructed him to initiate an investigation into the incident.

Aanandi Devi Sadaya, 25, from Barchhawa village in Naraha Rural Municipality, had previously reported an attempted rape by two men on December 24. She was later found hanging at her maternal home in Donbari Tole, Nawarajpur Rural Municipality-3, on Tuesday at around 3:30 p.m.


She had alleged that, despite filing a complaint with the police regarding the attempted rape, they refused to register it. Her body has been kept at the Provincial Hospital in Lahan for a post-mortem examination.
