KATHMANDU, May 29: On the occasion of Republic Day, high security measures have been implemented as the ruling party, CPN (UML), and the pro-monarchy parties including Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) prepared to hold demonstrations simultaneously in Kathmandu.
The CPN (UML) program has started in the Bhrikuti Mandap area, while the RPP and allied parties and groups have planned their event at Shanti Batika after 2 pm. The Kathmandu District Administration has scheduled the timings in a way to prevent the two groups from meeting each other. The UML program must conclude by 2 pm, after which the RPP-led parties’ program will begin.

At the event organized by the CPN (UML), rallies with processions from various parts of Kathmandu are ongoing as participants make their way to the venue at Bhrikuti Mandap. Meanwhile, preparations are also underway for the pro-monarchy groups' program.
In the meantime, the Kathmandu administration has deployed over four thousand security personnel around the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) event venue. A security official stated that this deployment is in response to the demonstration that took place at Tinkune on March 28 and the resulting tense situation, aiming to ensure security.
With a large number of security forces deployed in the Shanti Batika area, responsibility for securing important establishments such as the airport has been assigned accordingly. Around two thousand security personnel have also been deployed in Bhrikuti Mandap and other sensitive areas.
