KATHMANDU, Sept 15: The government has decided to form a high-level transportation management committee to ensure safe and smooth travel during the upcoming festivals and to address complaints related to transport services promptly.
According to Physical Infrastructure and Transport Secretary Keshav Kumar Sharma, a meeting at the ministry on Sunday endorsed a six-point decision, including the formation of the committee under the coordination of the Director General of the Department of Transport Management.

The committee will include representatives from Nepal Police Headquarters, the Highway Safety Division, Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, and the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs.
Senior Vice-President of the FNNTE, Saroj Sitaula, said the meeting also decided to set up passenger assistance desks and conduct technical inspections of vehicles leaving the Valley during the festive season.
The meeting further urged all stakeholders, including transport entrepreneurs, to ensure that passengers traveling from Kathmandu Valley can reach their destinations smoothly.
Other decisions include initiating compensation procedures for public vehicles and offices damaged during recent protests, providing necessary equipment to traffic police through the ministry and the Road Safety Council, and issuing directives to prevent looted weapons or other items from being transported via vehicles.
