KATHMANDU, July 9: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast heavy rain in some areas of Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, citing the continued influence of the monsoon and the monsoon trough lying close to its average position.
This afternoon, skies across the country will remain partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some places of the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and other provinces. One or two locations in Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim may experience heavy rain. Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are also expected in high-hill and mountainous regions.

Tonight, the weather is predicted to remain partly to generally cloudy throughout the country. Thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are likely in some places in hilly regions of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in parts of other provinces. One or two areas in Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim may see heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are expected in some high-hill and Himalayan regions.
The DHM has warned of potential floods, landslides, and debris flows due to the anticipated rainfall. It has urged people living in urban and Terai areas to remain alert to the risk of inundation. The rising water levels in rivers and streams may disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, and transportation, including roads and air travel near river basins. Concerned authorities and the public have been advised to take precautions and make necessary preparations.
