KATHMANDU, April 22: The National Examination Board (NEB) has decided to stick to their original schedule for conducting Grade XII examinations, even if civil servants have to be mobilized in place of teachers who choose not to participate.

A meeting held today in Sanothimi reached this decision, urging students not to remain in confusion. Despite the ongoing protest by the Nepal Teachers' Association (NTA) and its decision not to cooperate in conducting the exams, which had of course created uncertainty among students and guardians, the NEB confirmed that the exams will proceed as per the schedule.

Examination controller of the NEB, Krishna Sharma, said that the board has decided to conduct the exams on the scheduled date, even if civil servants are required to mobilize in place of teachers.

Sharma stated that postponing the exams would negatively impact students' preparation and waste their valuable time, so the NEB has decided not to halt the exams. Instead, the exams will be conducted under the responsibility of the District Examination Coordination Committee (DECC) in each district, coordinated by the Chief District Officer (CDO).

The Chief District Officers have decided to deploy civil servants at each exam center to ensure the exams are conducted on schedule. Teachers who are not participating in the protest will be appointed as center chiefs and assistant center chiefs. In centers where such teachers are not available, the CDO will take necessary decisions to manage the exams.

Today’s NEB meeting also decided to call upon the protesting teachers to cooperate in conducting the Grade XII exams. This year, around 500,000 students are expected to appear for the exams, which will be held at 1,591 centers, including one in Japan.

For the exams, the NEB is preparing to deploy an equal number of center chiefs and assistant center chiefs, along with around 2,000 staff based on the number of students. Additionally, at least one office assistant will be assigned to each exam center, and approximately 20,000 security personnel will be mobilized.
