Govt to provide Rs 1 million each to families of those killed in Tinkune protest

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has decided to provide Rs 1 million each to the families of those killed in the violent pro-monarchy protest in Tinkune on March 28.

KATHMANDU, April 2: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has decided to provide Rs 1 million each to the families of those killed in the violent pro-monarchy protest in Tinkune on March 28.



During Friday's protest, police shot and killed protester Sabin Maharjan. Similarly, a fire during the demonstration killed journalist Suresh Rajak while he was covering the event.

A MoHA source stated that the government will provide Rs 1 million each to both victims' families. The MoHA has already recommended the Ministry of Finance to release the funds.


The MoHA has also instructed the Police Headquarters to strengthen security for media personnel. In response, the Police Headquarters has begun implementing necessary measures.
