Gen Z protest: Death toll rises to two in Kathmandu

According to a senior police official, a 22-year-old protester who was injured in Monday’s clashes succumbed to his injuries, while another demonstrator died during treatment at Civil Hospital.

KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The death toll from police firing during the Gen Z protest against corruption and social media ban in Kathmandu’s New Baneshwor has risen to two.



According to a senior police official, a 22-year-old protester who was injured in Monday’s clashes succumbed to his injuries, while another demonstrator died during treatment at Civil Hospital. The hospital’s Executive Director Prof Dr Mohan Chandra Regmi confirmed one of the deaths.

The clash erupted after protesters attempted to breach the restricted zone and march toward the federal parliament building. Police responded with gunfire during the clashes. Around 77 people, including both protesters and security personnel, were injured in the incident.


Meanwhile, over 30 injured youths are undergoing treatment at Trauma Center. Doctors said the health condition of some of these injured is critical.
