KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The District Administration Office (DAO) in Kathmandu has granted permission for Gen Z activists to hold a protest, part of their nationwide campaign against social media restrictions, rampant corruption and the lavish lifestyles of leaders and their children.
Assistant Chief District Officer Mukti Ram Rijal informed Republica that the local administration has permitted a peaceful protest to be staged at Maitighar. He further stated that peaceful demonstrations are allowed in areas outside the prohibited zones. On Sunday, a group of students from Gen Z visited the Kathmandu DAO seeking approval to demonstrate in the Maitighar–New Baneshwor area.

The protesters have announced that they will question the government’s social media restrictions, corruption and leaders’ extravagant lifestyles during the protest, scheduled to begin at 9 AM at Maitighar on Monday. Organizers said the event will feature cultural programs like music and dance, but no speeches are planned.
The Gen Z protest, involving individuals born between 1997 and 2012, is rapidly gaining momentum like a bushfire, with people from different walks of life expressing solidarity and support for the movement.
