KATHMANDU, Sept 12: The Gen Z community in Vancouver, Canada, held a memorial program honoring those who lost their lives during Nepal’s Gen Z movement against the social media ban, rampant corruption and the lavish lifestyles of politicians’ children.
The program, organized on September 10 and 11, featured photographs, names, and symbolic shoes of the deceased, accompanied by emotional poems, floral tributes and candle lighting, said Binisha Thapa, a Nepali-Canadian Gen Z activist, speaking to Republica.

“Gen Z youths had to sacrifice their lives in the fight against corruption and for good governance in Nepal,” Thapa said. “We believe their sacrifice will help uplift the country.”
Police opened fire to suppress the Gen Z protests on September 8, leaving at least 51 dead and more than a thousand injured nationwide.
Nepalis around the world have been condemning the incident, organizing memorial programs and paying tribute to the victims, accusing the government of brutality that led to the tragedy.
