KATHMANDU, Aug 5: The Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC), a prestigious network of top-tier universities including Tsinghua University, Yale University, the University of Oxford, and other renowned institutions, has officially launched the Climate X Leadership Training Program 2025.
Supported by UNESCO and conducted online, this month-long initiative aims to equip youth from around the world with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to lead global climate action.
Students awarded first aid training certificates

Bringing together like-minded participants from 79 countries, including Nepal, the program focuses on preparing future climate leaders with a strong commitment to sustainability, innovation and the net-zero vision. The training is structured into four themed weeks—Global Climate Governance Week (August 4–8), Climate X Nature Week (August 11–15), Climate X Adaptation Week (August 18–22), and Climate X Leadership Week (August 25–29)—each addressing critical aspects of the global climate agenda.
The program’s objectives span joint research, talent cultivation, campus-level climate action, public engagement, and social implementation, with an emphasis on bridging cross-disciplinary gaps, tackling global development challenges, and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to GAUC, the training is designed not only to deepen understanding but also to inspire youth to lead impactful initiatives in their own countries and communities.
Nepali participant Janak Prasad Pandey expressed optimism about the experience, stating that the intensive sessions, led by distinguished professors from across the globe, would offer valuable insights and practical knowledge.
As part of its outcome, the program will honour 50 participants as Climate Youth Trainers and 100 individuals as Climate Youth Pioneers under the 1+1 Module, a recognition that will follow a rigorous selection process. Organizers hope the initiative will strengthen global cooperation, foster climate-conscious leadership, and accelerate youth-driven solutions to the pressing climate crisis.
