KATHMANDU, July 11: Balaram Balbahadur Gharti Magar, a leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and former minister, has passed away. He died while undergoing treatment at B&B Hospital in Gwarko, Lalitpur, at around 10:30 am on Friday. He was 87. The news was confirmed by RPP joint Spokesperson Mohan Shrestha.
Born in Rolpa, Gharti Magar served as a minister 11 times at different stages of his political career. He was known for his clean image and was widely regarded as a simple and principled leader.

RPP expressed deep sorrow over his demise, stating that Nepal has lost not only an experienced politician but also a wise guardian. The party emphasized the need to honor his life of simplicity and high ideals.
In a statement, party Spokesperson and Chief Whip Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi said,“Balaram Gharti Magar was a leader who truly embodied simple living and high thinking. He dedicated his entire life to serving the country and its people. Despite being born in the remote hills of Rolpa, he rose to prominent political positions and tirelessly fought for the rights and welfare of the people. His humble nature, friendly personality, and deep connection with the public made him a beloved figure, especially in Rolpa.”
Serving 11 terms as a minister, Gharti Magar always prioritized public-oriented work while in different positions. Actively advocating for a corruption-free society, he was known for a political journey marked by honesty, transparency, and integrity.
