BAGLUNG, June 3): Former Member of Parliament Govinda Prasad Sharma Kandel passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday. He died while being taken from Chitwan to Kathmandu for treatment, according to Nepali Congress (NC) Baglung President Jit Bahadur Sherchan.

Kandel was elected to the House of Representatives from constituency Baglung-1 in the 1991 general elections. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
A long-time heart patient, Kandel led the NC District Committee in Baglung from 1980 to 1991. He was also a central member of the party’s Council of Senior Politicians.
