Forex Buzz: US Dollar holds steady

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Nepal’s currency market opened on Tuesday with a familiar tone, as the US dollar remained stable compared to Monday, according to fresh figures from the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). The official buying rate for one US dollar stands at Rs 139.96, and the selling rate at Rs 140.56 as of Tuesday.



The euro is set at Rs 162.86 (buying) and Rs 163.56 (selling), while the British pound sterling—still one of the heavyweight currencies—comes in at Rs 188.05 and Rs 188.86. The Swiss franc isn’t far behind, fetching Rs 172.74 (buying) and Rs 173.48 (selling).


The Australian dollar trades at Rs 91.20 and Rs 91.60, the Canadian dollar at Rs 101.61 and Rs 102.04, and the Singapore dollar holds steady at Rs 108.88 and Rs 109.35.

In Asian currencies, 10 Japanese yen are worth Rs 9.46 (buying) and Rs 9.51 (selling). The Chinese yuan is at Rs 19.48 and Rs 19.57, while Gulf currencies such as the Saudi riyal (Rs 37.29/37.45) and Qatari riyal (Rs 38.40/38.56) remain firm.


The Thai baht is priced at Rs 4.32 and Rs 4.34, the UAE dirham at Rs 38.11 and Rs 38.27, and the Malaysian ringgit at Rs 33.06 and Rs 33.20. One hundred South Korean won are valued at Rs 10.06 and Rs 10.10. Among Scandinavian currencies, the Swedish krona is at Rs 14.57 and Rs 14.63, while the Danish krone stands at Rs 21.82 and Rs 21.92.


From the Middle East, the Kuwaiti dinar remains the most expensive currency in Nepal at Rs 457.88 (buying) and Rs 459.84 (selling), followed by the Bahraini dinar at Rs 371.23/372.82 and the Omani riyal at Rs 363.53/365.09.


As for India, INR 100 will cost Rs 160 (buying) and Rs 160.15 (selling).


NRB reminded the public that these exchange rates are applicable in Nepal and can be adjusted anytime, while commercial bank rates may vary. For the latest figures, the bank advises checking its official website.
