Flood division issues 3-day alert for riverbank areas

As the monsoon sets in, floods have increased the risk of damage across the country, with roads already destroyed in Koshi Province.

KATHMANDU, May 31: As the monsoon sets in, floods have increased the risk of damage across the country, with roads already destroyed in Koshi Province.



The Flood Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has started issuing flood risk warnings.

On Saturday morning, the Flood Division issued a flood alert.


The forecast states, "Over the next three days, water levels in the Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, and their major tributaries, along with the Kamala, Bagmati, East Rapti, West Rapti, and Babai rivers, will remain below alert levels but are likely to rise. We must stay cautious in all activities along the riverbanks. The Kankai River's water level will also stay near alert levels, so we should maintain vigilance in those areas."
