Five of eight dead at Trauma Center identified

KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Eight people have been confirmed dead at the National Trauma Center, with five identified so far, according to the hospital.



The identified victims include 19-year-old Shreeyam Chaulagain, a student at Global College; Sulabharaj Shrestha of Banke; Buddhi Tamang of Kirtipur, Kathmandu; Stop Adhikari of Baneshwor, Kathmandu; and Gaurav Joshi.

Other victims are yet to be identified, said Dr. Badri Rijal, Medical Superintendent of the Trauma Center. He informed that 56 injured individuals were admitted to the hospital.


According to the Ministry of Health and Population, police shooting during Monday’s Gen Z protest left 19 people dead and 421 injured.


Among the deceased, three died at Civil Hospital, eight at the Trauma Center, three at Everest Hospital, two at KMC, one at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and two at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.


The government has decided to provide free treatment for those injured during the protest. Monday’s Cabinet meeting directed the MoHP to arrange for their treatment.
