Five detained for allegedly crashing drone at Parliament

Police have detained five individuals for allegedly flying and crashing a drone at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, July 11: Police have detained five individuals for allegedly flying and crashing a drone at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.



According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Apilraj Bohora, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, those taken into custody include Bijay Babu Regmi, a professor and course coordinator at Techspire College in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10, along with students Saman Maharjan, Sujal Kaji Shrestha, Samip Khatiwada, and Aftab Reza.

“They have been detained on the charge of flying a drone over the Federal Parliament Building and have been presented at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu,” SP Bohora said.


On the morning of July, at around 9:30 AM, a drone was found on the roof of the southern section of the Parliament Building, a designated no-fly zone. Police stated that the drone had taken off from the Techspire College location.


SP Bohora added that, according to the college principal, Laxman Pokhrel, the professor and students had been assigned the task of building and testing the drone as part of a semester project, with written instructions issued on June 27.
