KATHMANDU, July 15: Police have arrested five individuals with suspected involvement in organized crime after seizing counterfeit Nepali currency worth Rs 1.3 million and more than 30 kilograms of narcotics resembling opium.
According to a statement issued by the District Police Office, Surkhet, the operation began following a tip-off about the circulation of fake currency in Birendranagar Municipality. Acting on the information, a police team arrested 22-year-old Dilmaya Singh Thakuri of Jajarkot on Monday from Shanti Tole, Birendranagar-10. Police recovered six fake notes of Rs 1,000 denomination from her possession.

Further investigation led to the discovery of an additional 1,236 counterfeit notes—equivalent to Rs 1.236 million—hidden in the rented room of Thakuri and Ram Bahadur Singh, 33, also from Jajarkot.
Further investigation led to the arrest of two more individuals—Krishna Bahadur Oli, 35, and Prem Bahadur BK, 38—from Bheriganga Municipality, Surkhet. A search of their belongings resulted in the seizure of 11 packets of opium-like substance weighing 11.372 kilograms.
The biggest haul came on Tuesday morning from Kohalpur, Banke. Police detained 34-year-old Man Bahadur Sahakari, operator of a media company named Janagarjan Network Pvt. Ltd. A raid on his residence and media office yielded 51 counterfeit Rs 1,000 notes, totaling Rs 51,000 along with 15 more packets of a sticky substance resembling opium weighing 19.3 kilograms. Authorities also confiscated equipment believed to be used in counterfeiting operations, including a Canon printer, CPU, monitor, camera, and other digital devices.
The arrested individuals face charges related to narcotics trafficking, counterfeiting currency, and organized crime. Police said further investigations are underway.
