KATHMANDU, Sep 8: Several district-level leaders and cadres of the CPN-UML have collectively resigned from the party, expressing deep remorse over the government’s handling of the Gen Z protests.
The leaders from Bardiya district submitted a joint resignation, denouncing the government’s "brutal suppression" of a peaceful protest, which they claim led to the deaths of innocent youths and students.
Those resigning accused the UML-led government of perpetrating state violence and stated that it left them with a sense of "moral guilt," prompting them to sever all ties with the party.
Aides to resign en masse as PM signals massive changes

“The blood of innocent youths and students has cursed us. Therefore, we are resigning collectively, with no intention of retaining even ordinary membership in the UML,” the resignation letter reads.
Among the notable figures who signed the resignation are Bir Bahadur Tharu, Central Member of the All Nepal Farmers’ Federation; Ram Singh Tharu, District Committee Member; and Amrita Hamal, District Committee Member of the All Nepal Women’s Association, among others.
The leaders alleged that the UML-led government employed “cruel repression” against peaceful demonstrators, leading to fatalities among youths and students. They cited this incident as the breaking point that triggered deep self-reflection and ultimately led to their decision to resign.
This development raises further questions about how the party leadership will respond to growing internal dissent following the events on September 8 and 9.
