KATHMANDU, July 26: Parbati Karki of Bangepipal, Gangajamuna Rural Municipality–6 in Dhading, has been declared the bumper prize winner of Ncell’s Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign, taking home a life-changing cash prize of Rs 1 crore.

Her emotional journey from hardship to hope reached a joyful milestone during a special ceremony held at Ncell ICON, Lainchaur, on Friday. Karki received the grand prize with disbelief and gratitude in her eyes—proof, she says, that perseverance pays off. “Keep working hard; one day your efforts will pay off,” has always been her guiding belief.

Karki became eligible for the bumper prize after purchasing the ‘Basic Renewal’ pack worth Rs 99 during the third week of the campaign. A loyal Ncell customer for the past eight years, her name was drawn from thousands of eligible participants in the campaign, which ran from June 15 to July 16 (Asar 1 to 32). The initiative also offered weekly cash prizes of Rs 100,000 to 50 lucky winners.

Her journey has not been easy. In 2015, the devastating earthquake took the life of her one-month-old son and reduced their newly built family home to rubble. “Everything we had built and dreamed of collapsed in a moment,” she recalled.

To survive, the family borrowed money, and her husband left for foreign employment in Bahrain, where he still works despite deteriorating health. Their only son is now studying in Grade 12 in Kathmandu. Karki herself continues to serve her community as a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV), offering essential health support to families in rural Dhading.

At one point, the couple attempted to run a small business in Kathmandu, but it failed, forcing her husband to return abroad to repay the resulting debts. “We are still repaying those loans. His health isn’t good, and life has continued to be a struggle,” she said.

Karki described winning the prize as nothing short of a miracle. “I have endured so much in life, but never gave up and never stopped believing,” she shared. “This prize feels like a reward for all those years of hardship. I am deeply grateful to the Ncell family for recognising my story.”

With the Rs 1 crore prize, Karki plans to pay off their remaining debts, bring her husband back home, and invest in her son’s future. “No more foreign employment now. We want to start a business together—here in Nepal,” she said, her voice filled with determination.

Ncell discontinued the Sadhain ON Crorepati campaign on July 17 following a directive from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). Alongside Karki, 50 other winners each received Rs 100,000 as part of the campaign.

“It brings us immense joy to fulfil our promise and award this life-changing bumper prize,” said Enamul Kabir, Chief Financial Officer of Ncell. “On behalf of the entire Ncell family, I warmly congratulate Parbati Karki. Her story is one of resilience and hope. We are humbled to be a small part of her journey and look forward to visiting Dhading once her family is reunited.”

According to Ncell, the cash prizes have already been distributed to Karki and 35 weekly winners, while verification is ongoing for the remaining 15 recipients.
