KATHMANDU, Sept 24: The Deuba couple, seriously injured in a brutal attack by a violent mob during the Gen Z protest, will remain in the hospital for a few more days. According to Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba, doctors have advised that they need additional rest in the hospital.
“The doctors have reported significant improvement in their health condition. However, the internal injuries have not yet fully healed,” said personal secretary Deuba, “Therefore, they will stay in the hospital for a few more days.”
During the Gen-Z movement on September 9, a violent mob entered Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha and attacked him and his wife, then-Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba. Footage shows some of the mob presenting lethal threats. Some individuals were seen carrying knives and other household weapons.

The same footage shows that some people in the crowd helped save the Deuba couple’s lives. Later, the Nepali Army intervened to protect both, who endured nearly eight hours of torment. That evening, the army escorted the couple to a hospital for treatment.
While Deuba reportedly suffered a deep sharp weapon injury to his neck, requiring 12 stitches, Dr Rana sustained even more serious injuries, family sources report.
In addition, the Deuba residence was set on fire and completely damaged. The house is currently uninhabitable. For this reason, even after discharge, arrangements for their stay are still being explored, personal secretary Deuba said.
He added that four or five potential locations are being considered for temporary accommodation. “But no decision has been finalized yet,” he said. He also clarified that the plan for Dr Rana to stay at her brother Bhushan Rana’s house has not been finalized. “Contrary to rumors, that is not confirmed. Searches for accommodation are still ongoing,” he said.
