KATHMANDU, Aug 22 : Dengue infection has spread to 74 districts across Nepal, with two confirmed deaths so far, health authorities said Friday.
According to Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, chief of the Vector-Borne Disease Control Section under the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, 3,247 cases have been recorded including 211 new cases in the past week.

By province, Koshi has reported 568 cases, Madhes 62, Bagmati 675, Gandaki 914, Lumbini 551, Karnali 93, and Sudurpaschim 384.
With continued rainfall fueling mosquito breeding, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant. The Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which breed in stagnant water, are responsible for spreading dengue.
To curb the spread, the government has been running a nationwide “search and destroy” campaign against mosquito larvae every Friday.
In 2024, dengue spread to 76 districts, infecting 41,865 people and claiming 15 lives.
