Death toll in Sunsari bus accident rises to four, 23 injured

The accident occurred at Jaluwatol in Bokraha-Narsingh Rural Municipality-3 along the East-West Highway on Monday morning. A bus (Me 1 Kha 1799) traveling from Kakarbhitta, Jhapa to Diktel, Khotang collided head-on with a Winger microbus (Province 2-01-001 J 0047) coming from the opposite direction.

BIRATNAGAR, Aug 11: The death toll from a bus and microbus collision in Sunsari district has risen to four, with 23 others injured, police said.



The accident occurred at Jaluwatol in Bokraha-Narsingh Rural Municipality-3 along the East-West Highway on Monday morning. A bus (Me 1 Kha 1799) traveling from Kakarbhitta, Jhapa to Diktel, Khotang collided head-on with a Winger microbus (Province 2-01-001 J 0047) coming from the opposite direction.

Of the 27 people injured in the crash, four died during treatment. Police have identified three of the deceased as Shankar Mandal, 35, of Madhav Rural Municipality-6 in Saptari; Laxman Sada, 70, of Koshi Rural Municipality-6 in Sunsari and Ashok Yadav of Biratnagar. The fourth victim, a woman, has not yet been identified.


The injured include passengers from multiple districts including Morang, Khotang, Saptari, Udayapur, Jhapa, Ilam, and Sunsari. They are currently receiving treatment at various local hospitals.
