KATHMANDU, April 8: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Lingden has claimed that the current Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa was formerly the vice chair of the youth wing of the CPN-UML.
Speaking at a public awareness rally organized in Balkhu, Kathmandu on Tuesday, Lingden claimed that the police action during the protest in Tinkune on March 28 was politically motivated considering the background of the police chief.
RPP to stay neutral in Koshi province: Chairman Lingden

“We thought the police acted on the home minister’s orders. But it turns out that the current police chief was a vice chair of the UML’s youth association,” he said, adding, “Did Durga Prasai launch the tear gas shells at us? The IGP now says shamelessly that the dates of those shells had not expired.”
Lingden emphasized that the police should remain neutral. “The police should not act as a wing of any political party, they must serve as a professional force,” he said.
