CPN-UML assigns responsibilities to leaders for successful demonstration on Republic Day

According to General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, the public demonstration is being prepared to commemorate Republic Day in a way that the general public will remember and to dispel the misconceptions spread by royalists.

KATHMANDU, May 26: The CPN-UML has assigned various responsibilities to its leaders to ensure the success of the massive public demonstration scheduled for May 29.



In a meeting held this morning at the party’s central office in Chyasal, leaders were informed about the list of responsibilities allocated to mobilize their efforts.


According to General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, the public demonstration is being prepared to commemorate Republic Day in a way that the general public will remember and to dispel the misconceptions spread by royalists.


In a meeting with the chairpersons, in-charges of mass organizations, and officials up to the ward level from all three districts of the Kathmandu Valley, General Secretary Pokharel informed about the assignment of responsibilities to the leaders.

Pokharel stated that Senior Vice Chairman Ishwar Pokharel and Standing Committee member Krishna Gopal Shrestha have been assigned the responsibility to mobilize a large number of people from Kathmandu district.


Secretary Gokarna Bista has been assigned the responsibility to coordinate the mass organizations. All the in-charges of the mass organizations will assist Bista. In the CPN-UML, the coordination of contact and liaison, which is considered a large mass-based organization, has been assigned to different leaders according to various geographical areas.


Accordingly, Secretary Lekh Raj Bhatt has been assigned the coordination responsibility for Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces. The districts of Bagmati Province are under the responsibility of Deputy General Secretary Pradip Gyawali. Secretary Padma Aryal has been appointed to coordinate all districts of Lumbini and Gandaki provinces. Vice Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa has been given the responsibility to coordinate the districts of Koshi Province. Vice Chairman Yubaraj Gyawali has been assigned to coordinate the contact forums of all eight districts in Madhesh Province.


To ensure a large turnout in the public demonstration in the Kathmandu Valley, Vice-president Ashta Lakshmi Shakya and Guru Baral have been assigned the coordination of Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, respectively. Outside the valley, Vice Chairman Surendra Pandey has been given the responsibility to coordinate the 10 districts of Bagmati Province.


Deputy General Secretary and Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister, Bishnu Rimal, has been assigned the responsibility for mobilizing volunteers. Secretary Yogesh Bhatarai has been given the responsibility to coordinate specifically in the Kathmandu Valley.


Secretary Chhabi Lal Bishwakarma has been assigned the responsibility to coordinate all departments.


On Republic Day, Jestha 15 (May 29), at 11 am, CPN-UML leaders and activists have been directed by today’s meeting to gather at Bhrikuti Mandap with tableaux, processions, and to attend bearing the identity of their party and mass organizations. Yesterday’s secretariat meeting decided to celebrate Republic Day grandly in Kathmandu as well as all municipalities.
