Court grants 3-day remand for MP Maya Rai

According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, Rai is accused of being involved in the embezzlement of funds from Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative Limited based in Kalimati, Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, April 27: The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to keep Member of Parliament (MP) Maya Rai in custody for three days for further investigation into allegations of embezzlement.



Judge Ishwori Prasad Bhandari issued the order on Sunday, allowing the police to detain Rai to continue their investigation. Rai, a House of Representatives member from the Nepali Congress (NC),  was arrested on Saturday evening from Budhanilkantha-10, Kapan area.

According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, Rai is accused of being involved in the embezzlement of funds from Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative Limited based in Kalimati, Kathmandu.


According to police, supplementary investigations are underway, and a final report will be submitted to the court following the custody period.
