KATHMANDU, July 27: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and NC Parliamentary Party (PP) leader in the National Assembly, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, asserted that the constitution amendment should be considered by reviewing the weaknesses on the part of constitution implementation.

In an interaction with media persons in the capital on Sunday, leader Sitaula pressed for a constitution amendment in a timely manner for its sustainability. He viewed the national statute can be amended by forging consensus as, he reminded, that the incumbent government did not have two-thirds majority in either of the Houses of federal parliament.

Leader Sitaula suggested that the government facilitated the constitution amendment process and the Nepali Congress, being the largest party in the parliament, assumed the leadership for the constitution amendment bid.

On a different note, Sitaula assured that the 15th national convention of the NC will be held by mid-December 2026.

The NC leader explained, "Although the party leadership's tenure is coming to an end by mid-December this year, the party statue has a provision to add one more year for the leadership. Going by history, NC's national convention generally has not been held in four years." He ruled out the possibility of organizing a general convention by the end of this year given the unresolved issue relating to the party's active members.

Sitaula commented on the incumbent coalition government that it could not deliver as per the public expectation in the last one year.  Sitaula also asserted the coalition continues as per two-party agreement.
