BYD breaks into Fortune Global 500 Top 100 at rank 91

KATHMANDU, Aug 5: Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has made a historic leap into the top 100 of the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list, ranking 91st, a significant jump from its 143rd position last year. This marks the company's fourth consecutive appearance on the list and its highest ranking to date, the company said in a press release.



The company reported a record revenue of RMB 777.1 billion (USD 107.1 billion) for 2024, marking a 29% year-on-year growth. It also strengthened its position as the world’s leading new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, selling 4.27 million NEVs which is a 41% rise compared to the previous year.


BYD’s growth has been powered by heavy investment in research and development. In 2024, the company poured RMB 54.2 billion (USD 7.47 billion) into R&D, a figure that exceeded its net profit, underscoring its commitment to technological innovation and sustainable mobility, the press release stated.

Its global footprint is also expanding rapidly. In the first half of 2025 alone, BYD sold more than 470,000 vehicles overseas and now operates in over 110 countries and regions.


The company’s rise in the Fortune rankings highlights its accelerating global influence, its strong focus on green energy, and its ambition to lead the global transition to electric transportation.
