Chandu, who studied in the village until 10th grade, found hostel life scary and disturbing. Additionally, being new to English medium for Intermediate studies, he faced challenges during the lectures.
He informed his parents that he couldn't comprehend what the lecturers were saying, and even found the food unsatisfactory.
‘I admitted you to college after taking out a loan. If you come back home, we will lose respect in the village,’ Srinivas Yadav retorted angrily. He emphasized that Chandu should somehow complete the two years.
Feeling unheard by his father, Chandu confided in his mother, expressing his frustration.
‘If you complete two years, you will have a good life. How can you be happy in life if you don't work hard?’ His mother pleaded with Chandu to listen to his father.

Chandu, who was accustomed to meals cooked lovingly by his mother at home, did not appreciate the hostel meals. Consequently, he struggled to eat the hostel food.
Despite his best efforts, he found it challenging to comprehend the lessons, and the hostel environment felt like a prison to him. His performance in the first internal exams was very poor.
The college staff sent a message to Chandu's parents, urging them to come immediately.
Upon seeing Chandu, Bhavani experienced a mix of emotions.
She pleaded with her husband not to let Chandu stay there for even a moment, urging to take him home immediately.
After careful consideration, Srinivas Yadav decided to take Chandu home for four days and then drop him back at the college.
They emphasized to Chandu that if he didn't focus on his studies, his life would be ruined, and he would be leading a life like them.
Despite their warnings, when Chandu did not listen, Srinivas Yadav resorted to hitting and cursing him. Bhavani intervened, preventing Chandu from being harassed further.

Chandu was taken to the hospital, after getting to know the matter, when he cried loudly that his stomach was hurting. He narrowly escaped death.
Two days later he was discharged from the hospital.
The entire village came to see Chandu. Relatives of Srinivas and Bhavani also visited. Chandu was encouraged to be brave, while parents were reprimanded.
Srinivas yadav's elder brother was deeply upset with him. He emphasized that children of this age are sensitive and that they need love rather than physical punishment. He questioned who could truly understand the pain and suffering of children if not their parents.
He also emphasized that growing children cannot handle excessive pressure and stress, especially during adolescence. He urged everyone to consider that academics are not everything in life.
‘Is facing shame in the village worse than losing a child? Even if honor is lost, it can be regained. However, can the lost child be brought back?’ He stressed the importance of trying to be loving and understanding with the children.
"If you take such steps in life for small things, huge problems may arise in life. How will you solve and cope with them?" He explained and advised Chandu to be brave.
