BIRGUNJ, Sept 17: The metropolis of Birgunj has claimed that the city suffered a loss of some Rs 1.15 billion in the vandalism and arson committed during the Gen-Z protest last week.
Chief administrative officer in the metropolitan office, Arbind Lal Karna, said various office buildings received severe damage in the protest. Collection of detailed information on the damages of ward offices and health facilities is underway, he added.

The detailed information on the loss could ratchet up to as high as Rs 1.50 billion. Three buildings in the metropolitan premises were fully damaged in vandalism and arson. Similarly, 17 four-wheelers, nine 2-wheelers and two auto rickshaws were also targeted by the protestors.
Meanwhile, the Birgunj Metropolitan Council held on Tuesday paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the Gen-Z protest and passed a condolence motion. The family members who are grieving were offered condolences during the meeting.
The metropolis is planning to amend the budget unveiled earlier for the fiscal year 2082/83 to prioritize the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure.
