KATHMANDU, May 19: Sharmeen S. Murshid, adviser to Bangladesh's Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, spoke about the connection between ecosystems and the importance of working together at the first Sagarmatha Sambaad dialogue forum in Kathmandu.
During the plenary session on "Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity," Murshid said, "We are one ecosystem, from summit to sea. What happens to the mountain happens to the village, happens to the city, happens to us all." She called for joint cross-border monitoring, shared water governance, collaborative science, and collective courage to face climate challenges. She also confirmed Bangladesh's strong commitment to fighting the effects of climate change.
Envoy stresses strengthening US-Nepal economic ties

Advisor Murshid met Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at his official residence to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Bangladesh and Nepal on different issues, especially global challenges like climate change. The Prime Minister praised Bangladesh's interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, while Murshid recognized Nepal's progress in women's empowerment and invited the Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh.
On the sidelines of the event, Murshid held meetings with Baroness Susan Hayman, UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Lords Minister), and Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Foreign Minister for Energy and Sustainability Affairs of the UAE, to explore further collaboration on sustainability and energy.
Leading the Bangladesh delegation, Murshid is participating in the three-day forum from May 16-18. The event brings together ministers and high-level representatives from countries including China, India, Bhutan, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the UAE to discuss major global, regional, and national issues.
Murshid also visited the Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu and received updates on the Embassy's activities.
