KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has urged the government to reconsider its decision to ban social media platforms, calling the move a mistake.

Thapa stressed that social media has become a vital platform for citizens to exercise their freedom of expression, participate in public debates, and hold the government accountable.

“It is also linked to social relations, entrepreneurship, the digital economy, and the daily lives of ordinary people,” he wrote, adding, “Any restriction on social media curtails freedom of expression and the right to information.”
