KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has condemned the assault and looting targeting the Deubas, calling it a heinous crime. He said he considers the attack on NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife Arzu Rana Deuba, which occurred while they were at home, a grave criminal act.
Highlighting Deuba’s unparalleled sacrifice, struggle, and historical contribution to the democratic movement, Shekhar said, “Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who has an extraordinary record of sacrifice and struggle in the democratic movement, and his wife were subjected to assault and looting while at home. I consider this a heinous crime, and no amount of condemnation would be enough.”

He added that he did not wish to dwell on where the party went wrong or what should have happened. Instead, Shekhar emphasized that the pressing question now is how NC can move forward under the new circumstances.
In a statement issued on Saturday, he said, “In this difficult situation, we can learn from the senior leaders of our party. The future direction of Congress should be guided by the footsteps of our senior leaders and warriors of the democratic movement, including BP Koirala, Ganeshman Singh, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Girija Prasad Koirala, and many others.”
