KATHMANDU, April 2: The air in Kathmandu is becoming increasingly unhealthy each day, making it one of the most polluted cities in the world.
According to IQAir, as of 9:45 AM today, the air quality index (AQI) in Kathmandu was recorded at 268. The worst air quality currently is in the Indian capital, New Delhi, where the AQI stands at 395. In contrast, the cleanest air is currently in Tokyo, Japan, with an AQI of 11.
Take Urgent Measures to Control Air Pollution

As air quality in Kathmandu continues to deteriorate, doctors are urging people to take precautions. Morning walks are discouraged, as pollution levels tend to be higher during the early hours. People are also advised to wear masks when going outside. Additionally, caution is advised as polluted air poses health risks, particularly for children and the elderly.
In recent years, Kathmandu’s air quality has consistently worsened between mid-March and mid-April (Chaitra), making it one of the most polluted periods of the year.
