KATHMANDU, May 4: Due to adverse weather conditions, air flights across the country have been affected.
The continuous rainfall has reduced visibility, impacting flights at Tribhuvan International Airport as well as other airports throughout the country, according to the airport authorities.
Adverse weather affects flights at TIA
According to the airport spokesperson, Rinji Sherpa, the poor weather and low visibility have caused disruptions to both domestic and international flights. This morning, due to "in-route weather" conditions, a Jazeera Airways flight was diverted to Varanasi, while a Buddha Air mountain flight (domestic flight) was also diverted.
Three flights of Summit and Tara Air, departing from Ramechhap to Lukla, have been diverted due to adverse weather in Lukla. However, with the rain stopping, flights are now operating normally from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu as well as from regional airports outside Kathmandu, as informed by spokesperson Sherpa. Some flights to remote airports have been disrupted, and a Nepal Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Thamkhark has also been diverted, he added.
There has been light rain in the Kathmandu Valley since early this morning. However, the weather in the Kathmandu surrounding areas is now generally clear, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Currently, the country is experiencing the influence of westerly winds and local winds, with light rainfall occurring in some hilly regions of the country, including Kathmandu, as mentioned in the weather bulletin issued by the MFD.
