68 inmates return to Bhimphedi jail

The inmates had broken the gates and walls of both blocks during the escape. A total of 260 fled from Block A and 180 from Block B.

BAGMATI, Sept 22: Out of the prisoners who escaped during the Gen-Z protest on September 9, a total of 68 inmates have voluntarily returned to Bhimphedi Jail in Makwanpur, according to officials. They came back on their own, without any pressure or intimidation.



By Monday morning, 259 inmates had returned to the regional jail. Of the 440 who escaped, 198 were brought back after being arrested, said Subash Paudel, chief administrator of the facility.

The inmates had broken the gates and walls of both blocks during the escape. A total of 260 fled from Block A and 180 from Block B.


Police are continuing their search for the remaining escapees, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamu Aryal said.
